Getting Started / Beginner’s Lesson Package. From the very first notes, reading music, theory, getting to know your instrument and with time, dedication and commitment, progression to a Grade 3 level. There are 9 lessons per term, face to face with Liz Firth, based in Newcastle NSW.
Beginner lessons focus on building a strong foundation: learning proper posture and hand position, developing a steady tone, and mastering basic fingerings and rhythms through simple, familiar tunes. These classes break concepts into short, achievable exercises so students gain confidence quickly while avoiding frustration. We emphasize listening skills, breath control, and slow, accurate repetition to create good habits that prevent future technical problems. Lessons are paced to each student’s progress, include clear practice goals for the week, and introduce music-reading and basic theory gradually so beginners feel motivated and prepared to advance.
30 minute lessons are packaged as 9 lessons per term. Priced at $360AUD (T&C apply)

Each lesson is 45 minutes duration, 9 lessons per term. A 45 minute lesson is well suited for students at a grade 4 level or for those who would require a little extra time at earlier grades. Lessons are face to face with Liz Firth, based in Newcastle NSW.
Forty-five minute lessons strike a perfect balance between focused skill development and sustained musical engagement: long enough to warm up properly, work through technique—scales, articulation, tone studies—and tackle a repertoire passage with thoughtful repetition and corrective feedback, yet short enough to maintain high concentration and prevent physical fatigue of the hands, embouchure, or breath. For intermediate players, 45 minutes allows deeper exploration of musical phrasing, dynamics, and stylistic nuances; for beginners, it provides enough repetition for motor learning while keeping sessions varied to maintain motivation. Overall, this lesson length supports consistent improvement, efficient use of time, and a lesson structure that feels both productive and satisfying for students of all ages.
45 minute lessons are packaged as 9 lessons per term. Priced at $540AUD (T&C apply)

Each lesson is 60 minutes duration, 9 lessons per term. A 60 minute lesson is well suited for students at a grade 5 level and above. Lessons are directly, face to face with Andy Firth, based in Newcastle NSW.
One-hour lessons with clarinet and saxophonist Andy Firth blends focused technique, musicality, and real-world repertoire tailored to your goals in both classical and jazz idioms; each session begins with targeted warm-ups and tone work, then moves into technique—articulation, phrasing, and finger-work for classical pieces, scales, and articulation for jazz—and concludes with repertoire coaching, practice strategies to build endurance and musical confidence. Whether preparing auditions, concert repertoire, or building improvisational skills and insight, Andy adapts exercises and selections to your level, emphasizes sound production, style-appropriate phrasing, and rhythmic feel, and provides clear, actionable assignments so progress stays steady between lessons.
